As soon as little Armani Milby was born in Kentucky, medical professionals knew they were dealing with a unique case.
Her body was greatly enlarged when she was born by emergency C-section at 33 weeks; her arms, chest, and a portion of her neck seemed enormous, as though something were developing behind the skin.
Specialists then determined that she had lymphangioma, a very uncommon congenital condition affecting the lymphatic system. This disorder causes significant swelling and lymph-filled cysts by obstructing normal fluid drainage.
Armani battled for her life from the beginning. The baby’s breathing was difficult, her little heart was under tremendous strain, and there was a great risk of deadly infections, so doctors told her mother, Chelsea, that the prospects were slim.
She stayed in the hospital with medical equipment for a few weeks, and each day felt like a well-deserved triumph.
But everyone was in awe of Armani. Her condition started to stabilize gradually. Cyst drainage, medicines to minimize swelling, and ongoing lymphatic system monitoring were all part of the treatment plan that the doctors initiated.
