I Saw God in a Bright Light”: 18-Year-Old Layla Crowell’s Miraculous Return from a 9-Day Coma

Posted on April 5, 2026

The Horrific Crash: 18-year-old Layla Crowell, a junior at South Lamar High School, was involved in a devastating car accident on Highway 27 in Reform, Alabama, just days ago.

The Medically-Induced Coma: Due to the severity of her internal and external injuries, Layla was airlifted to UAB Hospital in Birmingham and placed in a coma for 9 days.

A Divine Encounter: While unconscious, Layla describes seeing a “bright yellow and white light.” She told her mother, Kristy Stanford, that she spoke to God and asked Him to let her return to her family.

The Miracle of Life: Against all odds, God answered her prayer. Layla woke up from her coma, proving that miracles still happen in the heart of Alabama.

Extensive Physical Injuries: The road to recovery is long. Layla has already undergone 6 major surgeries to repair her:

  • Shattered femur, hips, and pelvis.
  • Severe injuries to both knees.
  • Broken nose and jaw.
  • Bruising on her pancreas and kidneys.

A Future Nurse’s Dream: Despite the physical pain, Layla is determined to return to school and pursue her dream of becoming a nurse to help others, just as she is being helped now.

A Call for Prayers: Her parents, Daniel and Kristy, are asking the community to continue sending their best wishes and prayers as Layla faces months of physical therapy and healing
